  1. Asteroid Florence; According to NASA a large near-Earth asteroid will pass safely by our planet on September 1, at a distance of about seven million kilometers. Asteroid Florence - named in honour of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the founder of modern nursing - is about 4.4 kilometres in size, according to measurements from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope and the asteroids and comets hunting NEOWISE mission. “Florence is the largest asteroid to pass by our planet this close since the NASA programme to detect and track near-Earth asteroids began.
  2. Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All (UJALA); In a bid to boost the government’s Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All (UJALA) scheme, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under the ministry of power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Oil Marketing Companies for distribution of energy-efficient appliances across petrol pumps. According to the agreement, the distribution of energy efficient appliances including LED bulbs, LED tube lights and energy efficient fans will be taken up at select retail outlets of Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL).

  4. Fluorescent blue; The Reserve Bank of India has issued new Rs 50 denomination banknotes with the motif of Hampi with chariot on the reverse. The base colour of the note is Fluorescent Blue. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse.

  6. Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-M); NASA has launched the latest in a series of satellites aimed at ensuring astronauts at the International Space Station can communicate with Earth. The Boeing-made Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-M) soared into space atop an Atlas V rocket that launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The satellite will facilitate space-to-ground communication for NASA’s low-Earth orbit operations, ensuring scientists, engineers and control room staff can readily access data for missions like the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station. TDRS-M is the last of 13 such satellites that have been launched since 1983.

Bhutan; Inking of the trilateral pact between India-Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) making way for the IMT Highway provides seamless vehicular movement between SAARC and ASEAN nations, enhancing trade, business, health, education and tourism between India, Myanmar and Thailand.  With a total length of 1,360 kms the IMT Highway will link Moreh in India to Mae Sot in Thailand via Myanmar; along route Moreh (India) to locations of Tamu, Kalewa, Yagyi, Monywa, Mandalay, Meiktila, Nay Pyi Taw, Payagyi, Theinzayat, Thaton, Hpa’an, Kawkareik and Myawaddy in Myanmar, further linking to Mae Sot in Thailand. The road’s construction began in 2012, aimed at completing it by 2016.
  8. Versius;  Scientists in the UK have developed the world's smallest surgical robot with low-cost technology used in mobile phones and space industries. The robot, called Versius, mimics the human arm and can be used to carry out a wide range of procedures in which a series of small incisions are made to circumvent the need for traditional open surgery.

  10. Dacharla Panduranga Rohith, a student of Chennai's SRM University, was on 21 August 2017 recognised by World Records of India for developing a nano missile. He developed the missile for the Indian Army and local police in fighting terrorism. The missile was developed for launch through a robot. This 1 cm nano missile can fly by burning the red phosphorus, and hit the target of three metres distance..
